Senses

An aroma which has been hold inside, was tickled my nostrils and the moving of the lid revealed beautiful colours of blue and yellow.

a project about food and ceramic

Three servings each represents an element:
water earth air

The plating and course aims to give an a higher eating experience for the person who engage with it.

The first course has water as theme. The color of the glaze inside is blue as the sea and stands in contrast with the color of the soup, which has an orange color that is like the seafood it is made from.

The similarity on the design is the handles on each of the objects. The bowl has a smaller top than bottom, which I hope will make the person who engage with it to bend in over the bowl, when they remove the lid. In that case the aroma from the soup will hit them. An aroma which has been hold inside because of the lid. The lid has spikes on the inside to spike a surprise shrimp/seafood or other colorful tasteful surprise which goes along with the soup.

The last course has the theme air. Here the lid is bigger and the bottom is just a plate. The shape of the plating is like a coil pointing toward the air.

There are small holes in it and on the inside of the lid there is a shelf which contains dry ice. The dry ice is shown through the hole before the user opens the plating and is also keeping the dish cold.

All three plating have only glaze on the inside and are closed forms with a lid and a bottom. the raw clay surface on the outside of the objects is a celebration of clay as a tangible material and creates an tension of excitement for then the lid reveals the colorfull inside.

The main course has earth as theme, which is reflected in the surface that crazes and looks like dry earth in a dessert.

The inside of the bowl is glazed with a dark tenmoku. The dark glaze accentuates the technique where I expand the bowl with my fingers from its inside, which reveals that it is handmade. The color and fingerprints give me associations to cave men and how old our ceramic tradition.

It also gives the impression of more meat on the plate then there actually was, because of the huge amount of brown. Again the aroma from the food is revealed, when the lid is removed.
