Nesting Creatures

What we perceive as broken, worthy and beautiful.

a collection of humanlike creatures

Nesting creatures is my collection of humanlike creatures made in unglazed pit fired ceramic and placed safely in small nests in a transportation box.

The creatures reveal sexual innuendos and raises questions about boundaries, vulnerability, gender, sexuality and fertility. The display is meant to gather each creature, so they create a small community, but also to highlight the scarred impression of the creatures and the loneliness in life by giving each creature a separate nest.

Each creature has been formed as one sculpture and afterwards split into pieces which have been fired individually to create the different nuances on each part. After the firing the parts have been reunited into the scarred objects you see. This technique pushes to the ordinary practices of craftsmanship and is also an invitation to think about when we perceive objects as broken, worthy and beautiful.
